Armed men abduct couple, child in Payao

Armed men seized a couple and their child in Payao town, this province on August 5.
The abduction occurred in Barangay Kulisap at about 6:45 p.m.
The report identified the victims as Elmer Romoc, 42, a collector of the municipal treasurer's office; Nora Romoc, 44, a businesswoman; and Ricson Romoc, 8.
An initial police investigation showed seven armed men struck while the victims were having dinner in their house.
The three were forcibly brought some 600 meters away from the house where a motorized banca was waiting.
The boat sped off to an undetermined direction, the report said.
Meanwhile, Glady A. Lopez, barangay chairperson, was quoted as saying that the suspects were armed with M16 and M14 rifles.
She said barangay peace keepers were not able to respond because the suspects were wearing military uniforms.
Joint elements of the 102nd Brigade and the Philippine National Police have launched a pursuit operation for the suspects.
