Where Hope Sails Next

Yellow boats are sailing farther down south as it aims to carry children on-board towards education.

Yellow Boat of Hope (YBH) Foundation continues to ride the current as it paddles towards the south; this time to Maluso, Isabela City; Bantayan; Romblon and Zamboanga Sibugay.

According to YBH, yellow boats are currently being constructed to send children in Maluso to school, as well as in Bantayan. In Romblon, the foundation conducted an adopt-a-fisherman project to assist parents in keeping their livelihood without sacrificing children’s education. In addition, a Yellow Dorm of Hope is being constructed in Zamboanga Sibugay, so children from remote areas do not need to hike treacherous paths to go to school.

The foundation has just recently turned over a Yellow School of Hope in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte; motorized boats in Culasi and Sua, Sorsogon, Amaloy in Basilan, Bantayan Island Mactan, Layag-Layag, Zamboanga City; and yellow fishing boats were provided for the locals of Calitang, El Nido in Palawan.

YBH said it aims ‘to ensure no kid is left behind’ and through their programs there are now 12,000 children attending school, as of June 2016.

Despite these accomplishments, the foundation is nowhere near finished. With complementary programs Yellow Boat Adventure’ and ‘Yellow Bridge of Hope’, YBH seeks to address each problem from its root causes.

“We [YBH] are restrained sometimes by the lack of local implementors because of the remoteness of [the] communities,” co-founder Doc Anton Lim told the Manila Bulletin.

“Another problem is our increasing logistics cost due to the high volume of donated goods. We are still praying very hard that a cargo courier will answer our prayers.”

Lim remains positive through the 4Ps he lives by — Patience, Persistence, Passion and Prayers.

Launched in 2010, the Yellow Boat of Hope is a 100 percent volunteer-driven foundation. Unlike other non-profit organizations, YBH uses every bit of monetary donations in helping target communities.
