Four killed over petty quarrels

Four people were killed and two were wounded in separate strafing and hacking incidents in the province over the weekend, according to the police.

Information from the Provincial Police Office said an unidentified gunman shot at a man, his son and son-in-law August 27 in Barangay Lower Tungawan, Tungawan town.

The victims -- identified as Filizardo Rico-Lubaton, 47, his 11-year-old son and son-in-law Elmer Banga-Manalo, 23 -- were talking on the terrace of their home when they were attacked about 6:40 a.m. on Sunday.

The elder Lubaton died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds. His son and son-in-law were seriously wounded in the attack.

The shooter quickly escaped and authorities have yet to determine his motive for the attack.

A couple was also killed in a strafing incident in Barangay San Vicente, Malangas town on Saturday night, Alabata said.

The couple Zenaido Tormes, 53, and his wife Marcela Tormes, 46, were watching television in their neighbor's house when an unidentified gunman fired a cal.45 pistol at them them several times.

The victims’ daughter, who lives nearby, said she had noticed a man wearing a black jacket coming from her parents’ house before the shooting.

Meanwhile, a farmer was hacked to death by his companion after a drinking spree to celebrate the fiesta at Barangay La Fortuna in Payao town on Sunday afternoon.

The police has identified the victim as Carmelo Peteros Hampac, 59, a farmer. The suspect in the hacking is Joseph Francisco Madrid, 34.

He said Hampac was drunk and lying on a bench when Madrid, who was also drunk, allegedly hacked him to death without provocation.

Madrid has surrendered to local police.
